What it takes to be the leader who inspires others with Jim Parker

JIMPARKER.jpg

Jim Parker, a Master Certified Coach, Inspired Learning Facilitator, Professional Speaker and founder of The Mentor Connection, Inc. joins the show.

Note: Refer to audio player below to listen to this episode!

I have been coaching for most of my life: first as a middle child, followed by being a business owner who coached employees, more formal training began in 1997 when I enrolled in Coach University. To enhance my coaching, I became a CPBA (Certified Professional Behavioral Analyst and a CPVA (Certified Professional Values Analyst) in 1998 which gave me access to some of the best personal assessment tools available. I received my MCC (Master Certified Coach) designation in 2006 after logging over 2500 coaching hours.

After being in business for 16 years with moderate success, I realized that I did nothing but work, was divorced with 4 children that didn’t really know me. I decided it was time to find out who I was. My journey of self discovery started with a 5- year sabbatical that took me to Spain, Greece, Italy and India. When it was time to reenter the business world, I was not sure what that would look like. I knew I would be authentic and self-committed to living a transparent life in all that I do. The Mentor Connection was incorporated, and my first business client provided me with the opportunity to develop my business and personal coaching skills while making a difference in his organization. Since that time I have worked with small businesses across the country, coaching them to success as they defined it.

250sq_edrugstore.jpg

Four steps to transforming ones business and life into the success that people dreamed of:

  1. The importance of how well do we really know ourselves
  2. What it takes to be the leader who inspires others
  3. What is an inspired action plan
  4. How we acknowledge our successes

Also a special tip in conlcusion...

BIGGEST mistakes patients make with plastic surgery with Dr. Mauro Romita

mauro.jpg

Note: Refer to audio player below to listen to this episode!

Mauro C. Romita, MD is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with over twenty years' experience in the field of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery of the face, breast and body, micro and cranio-facial surgery. Dr. Romita is known for the technical skill, training, and integrity that he brings to his patients and in his surgical practice.

Following graduation from the University of Miami School of Medicine, Dr. Romita began his residency training at New York University Medical Center. He completed a comprehensive eight-year program in June of 1981, which included postgraduate fellowships in microsurgery and crainiofacial surgery. Dr. Romita is certifed by the American Boards of General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Dr. Romita is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and numerous professional societies. He is also an Assistant Professor of Surgery at New York Medical College.

Conveniently located on New York's exclusive Fifth Avenue, Dr. Romita's state-of-the-art surgical suite is a safe alternative to a hospital setting for most aesthetic procedures. More extensive surgery may also be performed at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center and New York Medical Center in Queens.

Dr. Romita has helped pioneer a unique approach to reversing the aging process through keen appreciation of the synergy among medical disciplines. The guiding force of his approach is a concept called "sequential intervention," whereby the early signs of aging are corrected with less invasive techniques for as long as possible. Progressively more complex surgical enhancements are introduced only when they are necessary and when the benefits can be maximized. According to Dr. Romita, "The goal of modern plastic surgery is to preserve a youthful appearance when possible and restore only when necessary to achieve a natural-looking, harmonious result."

Dr. Romita has published numerous papers in the field of Reconstructive Microsurgery and Trauma. He has been named one of New York Magazine's "Best Doctors in New York" and is listed in Castle Connolly Medical's 1999 edition of "How to Find the Best Doctors In the New York Metro Area".

Realizing He Was Different with J.C. Knudson

040.jpg

J.C. Knudson author of the book Living the Difference joins the show. As an entrepreneur and small businessman, he holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration. Knudson and his ex-wife are the parents of two adopted sons; today, Knudson lives with his partner in Oklahoma City.

Note: Refer to audio player below to listen to this episode!

J.C. Knudson Lives the Difference, Brings Experience to Memoir of Being Gay in America

Joseph "J.C." Knudson is an author on a mission to educate the world's population about understanding and accepting people who are gay. His first book, a memoir, is called Living the Difference (2010, Espresso House Publishing). Its subtitle is "An Enlightening Story Revealed For People of All Ages, Straight or Gay."

Editorial reviews of Knudson's book call Living the Difference "a fascinating journey no gay author has been able to capture to date," "conquering the final frontier of bigotry and ignorance," and "filled with love, hate, joy, sorrow and much more."

Living the Difference also turned up on Vonnie Faroqui's book blog, Writers in the Sky. Faroquai calls the memoir "remarkably under-sensationalized," praising Knudson's honest storytelling style that leaves the reader to draw his or her own conclusions. She mentions how Living the Difference lifts the curtain on the so-called "gay lifestyle," revealing a human portrait that resonates regardless of gender or sexual orientation. It's a portrait of success, of meaning, and of hope.

From Faroquai's description, Living the Difference seems to be an important resource for young gay men living with fear, shame or self-loathing; or for anyone coming to terms with a friend or family member's coming out. Knudson, it seems, told his story not to shock, offend or "convert" anyone, but simply to lay out a roadmap for acceptance. The book lights a candle against the darkness of ignorance.

The podcast of J.C.'s recent interview with Vonnie Faroqui can be found here. To learn more about J.C. Knudson, along with details of his book, go to thegaylyblogger.blogspot.com.

250sq_edrugstore.jpg

J.C. Knudson discusses & answers the following:

  • J.C. the book you have written, Living the Difference, is biographical in nature and yet there’s more going on than the sharing of memoirs.  What inspired you to begin writing and what is the motivation for you to let readers inside your life in this way?
  • In the book you write of your childhood attractions, crushes and subsequent confusion about what was considered appropriate attractions by those around you. Can you share with our listeners a little of your experiences and how you were impacted?
  • Do you think that you were confused about what or rather who you were attracted to or was the confusion you describe centered in discovering that your attractions were different from those of other children, that you were somehow different.
  • How do you think that early confusion affected you?
  • As an adult looking back at those early years do you see a shift in cultural perception or religious teachings toward or about homosexuality?
