Nifty After Fifty with Dr. Sheldon Zinberg

Sheldon S. Zinberg, M.D. received a B.A. from Seton Hall University where he matriculated by way of scholarship. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Cooper Alloy scholarship for academic achievement and used this to attend the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy, where he graduated with honors. He received his M.D. degree from the University of California Irvine, College of Medicine in 1962. After interning at Metropolitan Hospital in Philadelphia, he completed a three-year residency in Internal Medicine followed by a three year Research Fellowship in Clinical Gastroenterology at Los Angeles County Hospital.

While enjoying the private practice of medicine for 35 years, Dr. Zinberg served as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at two universities: The University of California at Irvine, College of Medicine and at the COMP division of The Western University of Health Sciences. During his academic career, Dr. Zinberg has been the recipient of many awards and honors and has co-authored textbook chapters and numerous scientific papers. He has been the President of several prestigious organizations and presently lectures and participates in numerous media interviews, both on TV and in the  written media.

Dr. Zinberg established one of the largest and most successful Internal Medicine consultation groups in California; and then in 1993, he founded CareMore Medical Group. As the Chairman, he led CareMore in developing numerous innovative programs that dramatically improved the delivery of healthcare services for almost 100,000 members including 20,000 seniors. At CareMore, he promoted and developed an Employee Stock Ownership Plan for CareMore employees; and, shortly thereafter, he successfully negotiated the sale of CareMore Medical Enterprises to Crystal Cove Partners and J. P. Morgan Partners, LLC.

As the founder of Nifty after Fifty (The Most Effective Centers for Wellness and Lasting Independence), Dr. Zinberg has continued to publish his views on improving delivery systems for the healthcare industry. In 2003 he authored a book on better aging and fitness called “Win In the Second Half” (Saddleback Publishing, Inc.). His second book, “Nifty after Fifty” (Saddleback Publishing) was released in May 2008.

Janet Fagan, M. Ed, ACC, JCTC is a life and business coach who specializes in the area of career transition, utilizing a values-focused and positive-based approach. With over 15 years experience in academic advising, counseling, assessments, teaching and coaching,  Janet has successfully coached and assisted others in planning their personal development. She has helped people find clarity, focus and achieve their goals.  She received her M. Ed in Education and Psychology from Monmouth University and then became a Certified Life Coach with the International Coach Federation, followed by another certification as a Job and Career Transition Coach.  In addition to traditional based methods, she offers clients “laser coaching”, whereby they come to the appointment with a specific focus issue and achieve targeted results in a shorter period of time.  Coaching sessions can be conducted in-person or by telephone, with service options to meet every budget . I have been coaching for most of my life: first as a middle child, followed by being a business owner who coached employees, more formal training began in 1997 when I enrolled in Coach University. To enhance my coaching, I became a CPBA (Certified Professional Behavioral Analyst and a CPVA (Certified Professional Values Analyst) in 1998 which gave me access to some of the best personal assessment tools available. I received my MCC (Master Certified Coach) designation in 2006 after logging over 2500 coaching hours.

After being in business for 16 years with moderate success, I realized that I did nothing but work, was divorced with 4 children that didn’t really know me. I decided it was time to find out who I was. My journey of self discovery started with a 5- year sabbatical that took me to Spain, Greece, Italy and India. When it was time to reenter the business world, I was not sure what that would look like. I knew I would be authentic and self-committed to living a transparent life in all that I do. The Mentor Connection was incorporated, and my first business client provided me with the opportunity to develop my business and personal coaching skills while making a difference in his organization. Since that time I have worked with small businesses across the country, coaching them to success as they defined it.

Jennifer Cassetta inherited her love of martial arts from her family. Her father, a Master in Tae Kwon Do, is still going strong in his 70s and her grandmother taught T'ai Chi into her 90s. A third-degree black belt in HapKiDo, Jennifer spent 10 years training with one of the top instructors in the country in NYC. Early on in her training, she was grabbed on the street but was able to scare off her attacker by tapping into her inner "she beast"—a power that all women can access during times of danger or stress.

Jennifer has also attained a Master's degree in nutrition, is a certified personal trainer and completed a holistic health program at New York's Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Jennifer's unique whole-body approach to health is a blend of her extensive training in HapKiDo, fitness and nutrition. A few years ago, she also created the popular Stilettos and Self Defense™ workshop, which is designed to empower modern women of all ages by teaching them basic self defense, awareness, confidence and street smarts.
